Variety: Cannonau (Grenache)
Location: Sardinia, IT
Alcohol: 13.5%
Light ruby red in the glass, this Cannonau is exquisitely balanced and clean. It admirably retains all the punchiness of Cannonau – wild berries, herbs, and sea spray – carried on a much lither frame than is typical of the region. Just a touch of smoky-earthy and full of sun-kissed, little red fruits, it has an undertone of more savory notes like grilled stone fruit and wild mint. Fine tannins and general island vibrancy make this very appropriate for a light chill if so desired.
Fermented in native yeast in stainless steel tanks, it sees a maceration period of about 14 days. The wine then ages in steel tanks for 8-12 months before being bottled without fining or filtration.
The Bagella’s farm roughly 12.5 acres in Sorso on land that overlooks the sea. Their vines are on average 80-90 years old. Mario oversaw the recent conversion from conventional farming to organic. The soils are comprised of sand and clay.
