A mix of crushed, stewed berries, fresh forest floor and old leather chairs almost make you feel like you’re in some Italian hunting cabin in the woods. Tons of baking spice, rich black fruit with a vivid ripe sweetness that balances out gorgeous acidity. This wine is drinking beautifully now, and will lie down for at least another 20 years.
The grapes come into the cellar in late September and are fermented in stainless steel tanks without the use of commercial yeasts. The wine is aged in large Slavonian oak casks for at least 24 months before aging in the bottle for another 2 years.
The San Guglielmo Vineyard sits just above the city of Siena. Sitting at 1,300ft elevation, the soil is made up of clay and marl. The vines are 25-years-old and tended organically.
