Intense aromas of black pepper, black tar, haunting dark fruit & licorice, smoked meats, rich & dank wet soils, vegetal & herbaceous summer garden. On the palate, primary notes of bright red and black fruit and grassy undertones, balanced by firm tannins.

Syrah, Pinot and Zweiglet whole-cluster and the Merlot and Cab Sauv destemmed and lightly crushed. All blended and co-fermented.

The X-Block is a 2-acre block within the Underwood Mountain Vineyard estate vineyard attached to the winery. It is a cool-climate, high elevation block that is organically dry-farmed and lives on an extinct volcano that sits high above the Columbia River Gorge region in Washington state. It was planted in 2001. The X-Block has traditionally been an experimental block that has delivered fruit that expresses wild and edgy characteristics.
